Casual Table Setting in Seven Easy Steps.

I'm sure with the coming holiday season, we will have our fair share of spontaneous house guests. When it comes to entertaining unexpected family, friends and neighbors, we all want to make a good impression. In this, it is essential to have a quick table setting in your hosting repertoire. If you're wanting to wow your guest, be sure to follow the steps below.

Start with a clean table. Clean your table with a good multi-surface cleaner. It is ideal to start with a clean surface. Gather all flatware, stemware, dishes and assessories. Wash and polish all dishes. Use a dusting cloth to ensure that your assessories are clean and free of dust.

Items Needed For A Casual Table Setting:

  • Dinner Plate
  • Salad Plate
  • Dinner Fork
  • Salad fork
  • Dinner Knife
  • Soup Spoon
  • Cloth Napkin  
  • Wine Glass
  • Water Glass
  • Place Mat

Arrange Your Casual Table Setting.

Step One: Start by arranging your place mat on the table.

Step Two: Gently place the dinner plate on your place mat.  

Step Three: Fold your napkin into a large rectangle and place it on top of the dinner plate. 

Step Four: Gently place your salad plate on top of the napkin.

Step Five: Place your salad fork on the far left side of the place mat followed by your dinner fork.  

Step Six: To the immediate right of your dinner/salad plate gently place your dinner knife. Follow the before-mentioned placement with a soup spoon.

Step Seven: On the right corner of the place mat add a wine glass and the water glass. 

 

Salad is typically served before the main course. The salad fork is often placed on the far left side of the place mat. The dinner fork is normally placed to the right of the salad fork.

In a similar fashion, soup is also served before the main course, hence, the soup spoon is often placed on the far right side of the place mat. The dinner knife usually flanks the dinner plate on the right side of the place mat.
